Madison Mallards Game

Wesley and I went to a Madison Mallards Game tonight with Grandma Pataky and Uncle Mark.  I'm pretty sure Wesley's favorite part was when Maynard Mallard slid down the zip line from right field all the way to home plate.  He also liked his hot dog and getting to jump in the Mallard Moon bounce.  He met Maynard and Millie Mallard (the team mascots) and even got his picture taken with Millie.  We only stayed for the first four innings, but he had a great time.

Blooming Garden

A few photos of the beautiful flowers coming up in our garden.  It's been a lot of fun to see the plants poking their heads up and trying to guess what they are.  The previous owner had some nice things planted both out front and in the backyard.
A couple of alliums out front (the HUGE lilies in back haven't bloomed yet, but I expect I'll have pictures of them soon too.)

Orange irises up near the house in front

Deep purple bearded irises in the bed in the front yard.

Purple lupines out back.

Small rose bush out front.

Huge bush of roses next to the garage.

Clematis by the back porch.

Peonies on a bush hiding behind the fence out back.

More peonies (on the same bush)

Some kind of sweet pea bush (I think...)

Swimming in the backyard

Playing in the freezing pool water (we had the pool in the sun first thing this morning, but they couldn't wait any longer to go in).

Jumping to splash each other.

Wesley LOVES the pool.

Getting a running start.

Jump!

Ker-splash!

Soccer Photos

Aunt Ann and Uncle Mark came to watch Wesley play soccer last weekend, so we were able to get some photos of the game.

Warming up before the game.

Cheese!

Before kick off with his teammate Violet.

Trying to score against the Soccer Fairies (the three girls in pink from the other team)

Taking his turn to sit out.

Coaching the girls (Olivia, Belissma, and Hazel)

Kicking off (The referee reminded Wesley that he had to pass to his teammate before he could try to score.)

Wesley listened and kicked the ball to Nathanial (the boy to the left), it bounced off Nathanial's leg (who wasn't paying attention), and it came right back to Wesley, who took it down the field.

And scored a goal!  (Technically, he DID pass it to his friend first)

High fives after the goal!

Wesley's Bedtime Story

Every night, Daddy or I tell Wesley a bedtime story (after we've read books and he's in bed with the lights out).  Tonight, I asked him to tell me a story instead.  Here's what he said:

Once upon a time, there was a big Mommy named Kim (I think this is because I start every story with Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Wesley) and she was outside gardening on her pear tree.  Then, the pear tree speared!

(Mommy: "Speared?"  Wesley: "Yes, speared."  Mommy: "Do you mean 'disappeared'?"  Wesley: "Oh yes, disappeared").  The pear tree disappeared.

Then, the whole house disappeared.  Then, do you know what happened Mommy?  (Mommy: "No!  What happened next?")  Then... there was a dinosaur!  (Mommy: "gasp!")  But, then the dinosaur disappeared too.

Then, do you know what happened Mommy?  (Mommy: "No, what happened?")  Then, you disappeared!  (Mommy: "Oh no! Where did I go?")

You went to jail!  (Mommy: "Oh dear, why did I have to go to jail?"  Because you were bad, Mommy.  You made everything disappear!  The End.

Mother's Day Weekend #2

On Sunday, we took the kids to the Madison zoo.  We had a lot of fun watching the animals just waking up and coming into their enclosures and playing in the Children's zoo.

"Roar!!!" says Wesley and "Cheese!" says Claire.

Watching the giraffes.  (Claire kept saying "Hi" to all the animals)

Watching the giraffes try to eat a nearby tree.

Feeding the goats.  Wesley loved this but Claire only wanted to say "Hi" to them.  She wouldn't go close enough to feed them but liked watching Wesley do it.

Driving the zoo tractor.

Inside the tractor, watching the zoo train go by.

Waving hi to the people on the train.  (We rode in the caboose later which was a big hit for both kids)

Waiting our turn to ride the carousel.

Wesley wanted to ride the lion.  Check out that huge smile.

Waving hi to Daddy.

Wesley swears he can see Claire in this picture, but I'm a little skeptical.  Maybe the dark spot near my arm, but I'm not sure.  It's still a great shot of Wesley and Mommy on Mother's Day.

Mother's Day Weekend #1

On Saturday, we took the kids to Rushing Waters, a trout fishery/farm SE of Madison.  For a small rental fee for the poles and bait (they won't let you bring your own), you can fish in a WELL stocked pond.  A perfect scenario when you're fishing with an impatient 20 month old and 4 year old.

Waiting for the first bite.

"Yeah, Wesley!" (Cheering her brother on.)

Leaning forward to see better. (Although we didn't get a picture of it, Claire helped me reel in a fish too.)

Reeling in a fish.

Scoop, we got him.

Watching Daddy take out the hook.

Daddy caught one too!

Another go at it (We caught six total)

Working hard on to get his fish.
